In 2014, the Orchestra, which has been awarded numerous prizes, suddenly amazed and enthused the audience with “Schumann pur”, performing concerts with a pure Schumann programme, and featuring outstanding soloists, along with an exquisite orchestra. The Schumann pure programme premiered on 12th April 2014 at Freiburg Concert Hall, and was broadcast on 22nd April 2014 by Deutschlandradio Kultur, the culture-oriented radio station of the German national service, cf. www.deutschlandradiokultur.de
There followed more concerts, all received with enthusiasm, at, amongst others, Berlin Philharmonic concert hall, Stuttgart Liederhalle concert hall, and Cologne Philharmonic concert hall.
“A whole evening of music by Robert Schumann – played by the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra? Absolutely! In March 2012, our musicians had set out for the first time on a search for the “blue flower” of Romanticism, under the direction of Pablo Heras-Casado. At the time, Schubert, Mendelssohn and Schumann were on the programme. Now, it is Schumann’s three greatest solo concertos and his seldom heard “Overture, Scherzo and Finale”, Op. 52, which our musicians will bring onto the stage of the Concert Hall with Isabelle Faust, Jean-Guihen Queyras and Alexander Melnikov. For the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, it was really a long way from Baroque to High Romanticism at the end of which a concert experience of a very special kind is now awaiting you: Schumann pur.”
